The Communist Party of India (Marxist) daily Deshabhimani would not be cowed down by the threats of the ruling party and would continue to carry out its responsibilities as a media organisation, said CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
He was speaking at a protest staged by the employees of Deshabhimani seeking withdrawal of the case registered against it for carrying details of the calls made by an officer investigating the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan, in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
Inaugurating the protest in front of the Secretariat, Mr. Vijayan said by registering a case against the daily, the government was attempting to threaten the organisation from carrying out its responsibilities.

According to him, the daily had only reported the information passed on to it by police officials and the government had no authority to register a case against it for reporting important details and conspiracy of those investigating the murder case.
“If Oommen Chandy and Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan think they can threaten Deshabhimani with a mere case such as this, they are thoroughly mistaken. With the support of the people, we will go in for stronger protests, if needed,” said the CPI(M) leader.
