North overall champions at school arts festival

Revenue District School Arts Festival: Thiruvananthapuram North district pips South to the post in a keen contest

Thiruvananthapuram North educational sub-district on Friday became the overall champions at the Revenue District School Arts Festival, held at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Neyyattinkara.

In a close contest, the North sub-district trumped Thiruvananthapuram South, scoring 1,030 points, two more than that bagged by South.

In the Higher Secondary School (HSS) category, Thiruvananthapuram North scored 391 points and South sub-district, 374. Thiruvananthapuram South tied with Attingal sub-district in the High School (HS) section, with both teams scoring 297 points. A close second was Thiruvananthapuram North.

In the Upper Primary (UP) category, Balaramapuram topped with 130 points, and Kilimanoor bagged second place with 127.

In the UP Sanskrit festival, Thiruvananthapuram South was declared the winner with 86 points. In the HS category, it was second with 81 points, while Kattakada topped with 91.

In the UP Arabic events, Thiruvananthapuram North reigned with 63 points, while Kilimanoor won in the HS section with 91 points.

St. Chrysostom GHS, Nellimoodu, maintained the lead from day one among UP schools. The school bagged 53 points, followed closely behind by KV UPS, Pangode, with 48 points.

In the HS section, New HSS, Nellimoodu, bagged first place with 120 points, and KTCT EM HSS, Kaduvayil, came second with 112 points.

Carmel EM Girls HSS, Vazhuthacaud, also was not displaced from the top slot in the HSS section since the start of the fete. The school finished on top with 111 points. KTCT EM HSS, Kaduvayil, was ranked second with 99.

This year, there were a couple of firsts in the fete with the involvement of students in the coordination of the event and preparation of a visual souvenir and a magazine encapsulating the spirit of the festival. It was released during the valedictory function held on Friday evening by Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar. Souvenir committee chairman M.M. Jijumon composed the script that threads together numerous visuals from the festival. It was directed by S. Shihabuddin and A.S. Shamnad.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by R. Selvaraj, MLA, and district panchayat president Ansajitha Ressal.
