The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) will cross yet another milestone on Saturday, when a host of new initiatives launched by the institute will be formally flagged off by Union Minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan.
One of the much-awaited events would be the launch of the construction of the Swasthya Suraksha block, a new hospital block with 170-beds, modern wards, sophisticated operation theatres and ICUs, utilising Central assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
The ₹300- crore project, including new medical equipment, is expected to be fully functional by June 2020. It will help resolve the issues of acute space crunch at the SCTIMST now

Mr. Harsh Vardhan will also launch the construction of the Combination Devices Block at the SCTIMST’s BioMedical Technology wing, envisaged under Phase I of the Institute's Perspective Plan-Vision 2030. This seven-storey block of 11,500 sq m area is being realised utilising ₹55 crore grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
The formal declaration of the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies (AMCHSS), the Health Sciences wing of the Institute, as one of the six Technical Resource Centres in the country for Health Technology Assessment, will be another highlight of Saturday’s event.
Coming in the Silver Jubilee year of AMCHSS, this project is yet validation of the quality of research work that the institute has been producing on crucial health issues.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan will release the AMCHSS’s silver jubilee souvenir.
A state-of-the-art Data Centre set up at the SCTIMST, to provide round-the-clock IT and related services to the Institute and constructed with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Department of Electronics’ funding of ₹12.5 crore, is another project being launched on Saturday.
