THIRUVANANTHAPURAM
National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (Natpac) has been roped in by Maruthi Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) to improve road safety in the 45 km of National Highway 48 between Ambience Mall and Bilaspur in Gurugram district, one of major travel corridors in Haryana.
The Natpac, an R& D institution under the KSCSTE, has been tasked with the project following the reduction in road accidents and improvement in road user behaviour following

the road safety improvements executed 8 kms in core area of Gurugram last year.
Traffic engineering solutions suggested by NATPAC were implemented by Gurugram Municipal Corporation with the support from MSIL and had lessened the woes of road users.
In the 45 km corridor of NH 48, the Natpac has been asked to assess the existing traffic scenario,

identify major accident prone sites, suggest innovative accident mitigation schemes and continuously monitor the accident scenario and o assess the causative factors for accidents.
The Natpac will also have to suggest remedial measures, supervise implementation of suggested schemes and evaluate the impact of schemes implemented as part of the ₹1. 5 crore project.
Director-in-charge, Natpac, R. Prakash Nair said the Natpac is gearing up to extend the activities to other states and that the study will commence in September and will be completed in one year.
