More facilities at Attukal: Sivakumar

The Cabinet will take a decision on allocating more funds to create better facilities at Attukal before the annual Pongala festival, Health Minister V. S Sivakumar has said.

He was addressing a meeting here on Tuesday to review the preparations for the festival, scheduled to be held from February 8 to 17.

The government was committed to improving the infrastructure facilities ahead of the festival.

The Minister directed the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project (KSUDP) to allocate Rs.1 crore to the Sewerage Division of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) for the repair of manholes in the city.

Steps would be taken to improve the drainage system in the festival area, roads, drinking water connectivity, and street lighting.

Over 4,000 police personnel would be deployed and surveillance cameras placed in the festival area.

Besides, personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services would be deployed to meet any eventuality, he added.

The councillors who were present at the meeting submitted a list of works to be taken up immediately. V. Sivankutty, MLA, chaired the meeting. Mayor K. Chandrika and officials from various government departments were present.
