The body of Athul Yadav, a Tata Consultancy Services (CS) employee, who went missing at the Meenmutty waterfalls at Kallar along with one of his colleagues on Wednesday, was traced several metres downstream from the waterfall around 12 noon on Thursday. The body of Mahesh Kumar of Haryana, retrieved on Wednesday, was released to his family after a post-mortem examination on Thursday.

Athul Yadav’s body was traced by local divers, who along with divers of the police and the Fire and Rescue Services, were on the job since Wednesday despite heavy rain. The body was later shifted to the Nedumangad taluk hospital. Athul Yadav, who hailed from Rajasthan, is survived by his parents and younger brother.

The police said strict restrictions had been put in place in the area to prevent tourists from venturing into dangerous spots, though none of the tourists who reached the place on Thursday were turned away. Officials meanwhile also installed a signboard for tourists near the waterfall, with images of Mahesh Kumar and Athul Yadav and a caution on the danger of bathing in the waterfall, the police said.
