Final touches are being given to the list of election booths classified as ‘sensitive’ in the district ahead of the April 10 Lok Sabha elections.
While the city police have submitted a list of 120 booths, classifying them as sensitive and four as ‘vulnerable’, a team of election officials will visit some of these on Tuesday to confirm the classification. The rural police, meanwhile, have given a list of 206 booths that are sensitive. Revenue officials had earlier submitted a list of 380 sensitive booths.
Election officials said a meeting was held on Monday to discuss the final list, which would in all likelihood be ready by Tuesday. Meanwhile, District Collector Biju Prabhakar, who is also the District Election Officer, on Monday issued notices against four Malayalam newspapers — ‘Madhyamam’, ‘Janmabhoomi’, ‘Veekshanam’ and ‘Metro Vaartha’ — for publishing reports that were ‘defamatory’ in nature for Left Democratic Front’s proposed candidate Bennet Abraham. The action was in the wake of a complaint lodged by the CPI’s Thiruvananthapuram district council secretary saying the reports that appeared in the newspapers on March 13 and 14 were tantamount to personal attacks on Mr. Abraham.

The Collector also said firms that undertook photo setting and printing works without necessary permissions in connection with the election would face stringent action.
