The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has started consultations to pick its candidate for the post of Thiruvananthapuram Mayor.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, secretary of the district unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kadakampally Surendran said a decision would be taken in two or three days. The response to the ‘suggestion boxes’ kept at 420 places in the city had been tremendous, he said, adding that a convention of the LDF on Sunday would discuss the suggestions of the general public and eminent personalities.
Poet Sugathakumari; former chief secretary C.P. Nair; former Member of Parliament P. Viswambaran; magician Gopinath Muthukad; and T.N Seema, MP; were among those who offered suggestions that could be taken up if the LDF returned to power in the Corporation.

Important suggestions would be incorporated in the election manifesto. Committees comprising experts in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, drinking water, health, education, infrastructure development and women’s development had been constituted to prepare vision documents. A comprehensive scheme to deal with the stray dog issue would be incorporated in the manifesto, Mr. Surendran said. V. Sivankutty, MLA, said despite the limitations, the civic body had handled waste management by promoting decentralised approach after the closure of the Vilappilsala treatment plant. If returned to power, the LDF would give a further push to the 'My City Beautiful City' campaign, he said.
