Lavalin: Chennithala alleges quid pro quo

Published - November 04, 2017 11:21 pm IST - KANNUR

Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has said that the Central Bureau of Investigation’s decision not to appeal against the acquittal of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC-Lavalin case is a part of a ‘secret deal’ between the Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s Kerala unit and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Chennithala said the stand of the CPI(M) Kerala unit against the proposal within the party to join hands with the Congress to fight against the BJP was a quid pro quo.

The High Court had made strong criticism of the CBI in the case, he said, adding that the CBI’s decision not to appeal against the court order in the case was a clear indication of the deal.

It was also a clear example of the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi was misusing the CBI for political purposes, he said.
