The Government Analysts’ Lab here will be equipped to receive the NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accreditation, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said. A consultant would be appointed to look into quality assurance mechanisms, he said. Almost 80 per cent of the requirements for seeking NABL accreditation had been completed in the lab and the rest would be taken up and completed in the next six months, he added.
The Minister said that steps would be taken to appoint a Research Officer, Junior Research Officer and three Technical Assistants so that the test results of water samples could be made available to the public within a week itself. The vacancy of typist would be filled soon. The Kerala Medical Services Corporation had been entrusted with task of completing the computerisation of the lab within two months. Steps would be taken so that all defunct lab equipment/machines were made functional again. New equipment, including a Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer would be made available at the lab, Mr. Sivakumar said.
The departmental promotion committee would be convened to fulfil the vacancies in higher posts in the lab.
