A squad set up by the Kerala Water Authority to detect illegal connections and misuse of water during the drought season has detected and disconnected 12 illegal water connections apart from suspending the plumbing license of one person.

According to an official press release here, following raids at Pothencode, Chenkottukonam and Sasthavattom areas, 12 illegal connections taken from the JICA pipeline passing through the region were detected. The Blue Brigade accompanying the squad has disconnected these while it was found that the connections were given illegally by a licensed plumber Sreekumaran Nair, who runs a firm called Shivashakti Engineering Works. He had collected exorbitant sums of money from the public to give these illegal connections.

While Sreekumaran Nair’s plumbing license has been cancelled, the squad has asked consumers who have taken new connections via him to approach the Water Works North sub-division assistant executive engineer (Phone: 85476 38186) to verify whether those connections were legal and valid. There were several complaints against him. It was understood that he had given several connections illegally, the officials said.
