Kumaran Asan cultural fete from Friday

Seminars on the youth, the media and higher education and a poets’ meet will be among the main attractions at the five-day Kumaran Asan National Cultural Festival which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, here, on Friday.

Chairman of the Kumaran Asan National Institute of Culture N. Mukundan told a press conference here recently that Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor would hoist the festival flag on Thursday and would also inaugurate the cultural and literary competitions to be held as part of the festival.

On Friday, Jnanpith awardee O.N.V. Kurup would inaugurate a national meet of poets. On Saturday, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala J.V. Vilanilam would inaugurate a seminar on ‘The Social Obligation of the Media.’

On Sunday, there would be a seminar on ‘Kumaran Asan and Malayalam Poetry.’ On December 31, there would be youth seminar, Mr. Mukundan said.

There would also be an education seminar that day in which the former Education Ministers M.A. Baby and E.T. Mohammed Basheer would participate.

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan would inaugurate the valedictory of the festival on December 31st evening, he added.
