The governing council of the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) has cancelled one of the MBBS supplementary exams at SR Medical College, Varkala, following the recommendation of the Malpractices and Lapses committee.
The governing council that met on Friday also took the decision not to allow exam centre for the college for a period of one year.
An external invigilator had earlier reported to KUHS that eight students had been found copying in the exam. The Malpractices and Lapses committee, which examined the closed circuit TV visuals, had confirmed this and had found that the in-house invigilators had not tried to prevent students from committing malpractices.

Meanwhile, similar allegation of malpractice by students during MBBS final year exam has been reported from several private and Government Medical Colleges in the State. However, the inquiry has to go through a three-stage procedure to ensure fairness and the process is currently on. A final decision by KUHS governing council is awaited.
Close on the heels of the KUHS decision, on Friday, unruly scenes were witnessed at SR College following a skirmish between some students and college officials. One of the students accused an official of having physically assaulted her.
Following a complaint put up by a group of students of the college and their parents with the Chief Minister, the government has reportedly asked the police to conduct an inquiry into the allegations raised against the college management.
