The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is gearing up to commission a Rs.55.93-crore bus terminal complex at Thampanoor in September and to commence operations from there, Minister for Transport and Devasoms V.S. Sivakumar has said.
Speaking after inspecting the progress of work of the terminal complex here on Friday, the Minister said those who had taken up the work had sought time citing technical reasons for completing the project that was scheduled to be commissioned in July this year. Time had been given by the government and the project will be commissioned in September, he said.
The work got delayed as the construction had to be stopped in August last following the caving in of the partially concreted fourth floor in one of the blocks. The Labour Department also issued a stop-memo following the incident in which a mason got killed.

Mr. Sivakumar said stringent security measures had been taken with the assistance of the Labour Department at the construction site to ensure safety of workers. Work had been progressing and the forthcoming monsoon would not be a problem. The work would be completed in a time-bound manner, he added.
The 10-storeyed complex having a floor area of around 30,000 sq. m is coming up on the southern side of the KSRTC premises facing Ponnara Sreedhar Park. Being implemented on the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, the project is a joint venture of the Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation (KTDFC) and the KSRTC.
