Know-your-food campaign from November 6

‘Know your food,’ an year-long campaign, will be launched in the State capital on November 6 in connection with the 10th anniversary of Organic Bazaar.

A food film festival, food and music event, classes on food and nutrition, and a meet of sellers of organic products will be organised as part of the campaign.

Former Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran will launch the campaign in the presence of poet Sugathakumari; actor Madhupal; and V.S. Vijayan, former chairman, Kerala State Biodiversity Board.

A three-day organic mela will be organised at YMCA Hall here from November 6.

Thanal, a voluntary organisation in the forefront of fighting pesticides and promoting organic farming, started the bazaar as a social enterprise. It brings together farmers and consumers interested in organic products.

Its first outlet was started as a once-in-a-month bazaar in November 2003. Now, the bazaar has an outlet that operates on all working days on Thanal’s office premises at Jawahar Nagar here. The bazaar supports more than 200 farmers and producers and has a consumer base of 500 families. Eminent personalities will grace the 10th anniversary celebration at YMCA Hall on November 6.
