Journalists in the State capital took out a march in the city late on Thursday in protest against an alleged attempt by a staff member of Shashi Tharoor, MP, to intimidate them.

The incident

The incident occurred when Dr. Tharoor was emerging from an interactive session with children attending a summer camp.

The reporter of a television channel put a question to him which was not to Dr. Tharoor’s liking.

He had allegedly called journalists ‘liars’ and, when the journalists persisted with the question, a member of his staff pushed them away.

The journalists marched under the banner of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ).

In a statement issued here on Thursday, KUWJ president K. Premnath and general secretary N. Padmanabhan strongly condemned the incident.

They urged Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran to take action against those involved in the incident.

If political leaders believed that they could intimidate journalists into silence, the KUWJ would retaliate strongly, Mr. Premnath and Mr. Padmanabhan said in the statement.
