Weekly inspections by a squad led by District Labour Officers should be done at places where migrant labourers live and work, the Labour Commissioner has ordered.

A press note issued here on Friday said this order was pursuant to the directive of the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights that employers must ensure that migrant labourers lived in conditions conducive to the welfare of their children.

During the weekly inspections, the squads should ensure that the health, welfare and security of the labourers were intact. Legal measures should be initiated against those who violate these conditions, the press note said.

Awareness sessions should be held against child labour by the district administration, the Department of Social Justice, and Childline.

Stickers and posters against child labour must be displayed at schools, hotels, industrial units, railway stations, bus stations and on public roads.
