Ex-minister’s son in police custody

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The police on Monday took into custody the son of former minister V.J. Thankappan on the charge of consuming illicitly brewed arrack. The police said Shajan, 46, of Aralumoodu, was taken into custody with his friend Manikandan, 32, of Parassala at a room near the Neyyattinkara court.

The police, who reached the room around 2.45 p.m., which reportedly was the former minister’s office, found Shajan and Manikandan in an inebriated condition. Nearly a litre of illicit brew was seized from the room. The arrest would be recorded and they would be produced in court shortly, the police said.
