The activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) took out ‘alert march' to the railway stations across the State on Friday demanding that the safety of women travellers in trains be ensured.
The DYFI also demanded that the women-only compartment in trains be shifted to the middle of the train and that adequate number of security personnel be deployed in trains. They collected signatures from train passengers on the issue and took a pledge. Several took part in the march, vowing never to remain silent about the attacks or atrocities against women in trains or elsewhere. Litterateur T. Padmanabhan inaugurated the march at Kannur railway station, where the DYFI State secretary T.V. Rajesh also spoke. The march to Tirur railway station at Malappuram was inaugurated by DYFI all-India president P. Sreeramakrishnan. P. Rajiv, MP, inaugurated the march at Ernakulam railway station.
Alert marches were taken out to Vadakara railway station in Kozhikode; Kozhikode railway station; Neeleswaram station in Kasaragod; Thrissur; Pathanamthitta; Kottayam; Kollam; Shornur station in Palakkad; Alappuzha; Chengannur; Cherthala; and Kayamkulam railway stations.
