Custodial death trial hearing suspended

June 30, 2017 12:37 am | Updated 12:37 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram

The Central Bureau of Investigation’s special court here on Friday temporarily suspended its hearing in the Udayakumar custodial death case.

Judge Johny Sebastian declined to accede to CBI prosecutor Manoj’s demand to mark as evidence a “contradiction” that the latter perceived in the statement of Suresh Kumar, a person who was arrested along with Udayakumar by the Fort police in 2005. Suresh Kumar was reportedly ambiguous in identifying the accused police officers in the stand, though he had taken a test identification parade held at the Central Jail here under the scrutiny of a magistrate in 2005.

Mr. Manoj said he would get a directive from the High Court to get his demand met. The judge said he was suspending proceedings till the CBI prosecutor got the clarification from the High Court.
