CPT bags awardin drama contest

A five-day drama competition for workers of various industrial units, conducted by Hindustan Lifecare Ltd. (HLL), concluded here on Thursday.

Transport Minister V.S. Sivakumar will distribute prizes to winners at a function to be held at the Panchayat Association Hall here on Saturday.

Dramatist Kavalam Narayana Panikkar headed the panel of judges at the competition titled “Sarga Sangamam 2011.”

Cultural competitions were organised in tandem with the State Bank of India. The Cochin Port Trust (CPT) bagged the M.K.K. Nair Memorial Award, which comprised a cash prize of Rs.25,000 and a citation. The award was for the drama “Kaduva” staged by its workers.

Santhos Sowparnika, director of the play “Godhoye Kathu,” was adjudged the best director.

M.V. Gireeshan of Keltron who enacted the part of Achuthan Sir in the play ‘Avasthantharam' was the best actor. P. Gopakumar of Model Food Products won the second best actor award for his role as Ayoob in the drama ‘‘Ottapalam.''

Sreekala, who donned the character of Amba in Airport Authority of India's ‘Mukhthadhara,' was adjudged the best female actor.

M. Ayyappan, chairman and managing director, HLL, will preside over the award ceremony.

The function will conclude with a music concert led by M. Jayachandran.
