The Communist Party of India (Marxist) launched an agitation on Monday in protest against the frequent pipe-bursts in the city and demanding a comprehensive probe into the issue.

The protest in front of the Kerala Water Authority headquarters was inaugurated by Polit Bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. M. Sivankutty, MLA; party district secretary Kadakampally Surendran; the former Minister M. Vijayakumar; Mayor K. Chandrika; were among those who addressed the gathering. A protest march preceded the sit-in in front of the KWA headquarters.

Dharnas were held in front of all village offices in the district with party leaders, including Anavoor Nagappan, Kattakada Sashi, S.S. Rajalal, K.S. Sunil Kumar and C.K. Hareendran, inaugurating the various sit-ins.

The agitation, according to a party statement here, would continue if the authorities concerned failed to act swiftly to put an end to the pipe-bursts and consequent supply disruption.
