All main sections of the city Corporation office, including the ‘Janasevana Kendram,’ functioned on Sunday following an initiative of the Kerala Municipal and Corporation Staff Union (KMSCU).
Corporation employees, owing allegiance to the KMSCU, attended office on Sunday as part of their efforts to clear pending files.
The Corporation office had witnessed an administrative standstill last week after a section of employees owing allegiance to the KMCSU went on agitation mode after six of its members were suspended by the State government on charge of assaulting United Democratic Front councillors during a picketing held at the Corporation office on June 16.

It was to compensate the loss of working hours during those days that the union requested its members to work on Sunday, said KMCSU general secretary and Corporation health supervisor and sub-registrar K. Jayadevan.
“Last week the Corporation office witnessed some unforeseen and unfortunate incidents. Six of our employees were suspended and non-bailable police cases were filed against 150 employees. These government measures were unfair and unjustified, which is why our members agitated against them. However, these issues did cause inconveniences to the members of public and it is to make up for this and clear the backlog that we decided to work on Sunday,” he said.
Mr. Jayadevan said that of the 600 employees at the Corporation office, around 520 were KMCSU members, and most of them had worked on Sunday. The birth, death and marriage certificate registration department issued more than 500 certificates on Sunday besides processing hundreds of pending files.

70 applications
The Janasevana Kendram at the Corporation office also functioned on the day. Ajay Kumar, staff member at Janasevana Kendram, said around 70 applications for birth, death, marriage, residential/ownership certificates and other applications were received. “This is an effort from our part to make up for the inconvenience caused to the public last week,” he said.
