Thiruvananthapuram zoo gets a Smart She toilet

The ₹12-lakh facility aims at ensuring safe sanitation for women

Electronic toilet by Eram Scientific Solutions that was inaugurated at the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo on Sunday.

Deputy Mayor Rakhi Ravikumar inaugurated a toilet and restroom facility on the city zoo premises on Sunday.

The Smart She toilet, by Eram Scientific Solutions, has been set up at a cost of ₹12 lakh. The launch coincided with the World Toilet Day celebrations and Responsible Public Sanitation Week. The toilets are aimed at ensuring clean and safe sanitation for women.

The modular, prefabricated steel toilets are automated and could be used by inserting a coin.

It includes a western toilet, a wash basin, and a napkin-vending and incinerator unit.

Users’ hygiene is ensured through pre-flush and after-flush.

The restroom has a chair, fan, mirror, baby feeding and diaper changing stations, giving women much-needed privacy.

Zoo Director K. Gangadharan, Eram Scientific Directors Bincy Baby and S, Narayana Swami, and ward councillor Palayam Rajan were present.

Prizes for the painting competition conducted by Eram on Saturday were given away on the occasion.

Arathy Gopan of AMHSS, Thirumala; Vishwas V.S. of Government HSS, Chathannur; and Vaishnavi Vinshnupriya of Carmel GHSS bagged the first three prizes.
