The Poojappura police on Thursday registered a case against about 50 activists, purportedly members of BJP and RSS, in connection with the altercation that had broken out at a function that was attended by social activist Swami Agnivesh a day ago.
Swami Agnivesh was heckled by alleged right-wing activists at a function that was organised by the Vaidya Mahasabha in Poojappura on Wednesday.

He was prevented by a group from speaking at the event, an awareness campaign on traditional medical systems.
The case was registered on the basis of a complaint that was submitted by the activist.
The police were in the process of identifying those who were involved in the incident, official sources said

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala visited Swami Agnivesh at the Government Guest House in Thycaud and condemned the incident.
Swami Agnivesh also received support from CPI (M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and senior leader M.A. Baby, who contacted the activist on telephone from New Delhi, where they have gone to participate in the party’s Polit Bureau meeting.
In view of the untoward incident, the police deployed a large security posse to Chappath, near Vizhinjam, where Swami Agnivesh participated in a function. The programme was held peacefully bereft of any similar incidents.
Visits temple
Swami Agnivesh also visited the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple during which he pledged his support for Pushpanjali Swami Parameswara Brahmananda Theertha of the Munchira Madhom, who has been engaged in a tussle with RSS-affiliate Seva Bharathi over a dispute regarding the ownership of a building in Mithranandapuram.
