The Trivandrum Residents Apex Council (TRAC) has appealed to the State government to exert pressure on the Centre to secure clearance for priority projects like the proposed container transshipment terminal at Vizhinjam, shipyard at Poovar, breakwater at Veli, and a nanotechnology unit on the Technocity campus.
A press note quoting TRAC president Amaravila Ramakrishnan Nair and general secretary K.T. Roy sought a compensation package, on the lines of the Moolampally package, for the families displaced due to the development of the Thiruvananthapuram international airport and the proposed apparel park to be set up by KINFRA at Vembayam and Amboori.
Pointing out that encroachment by traders and unauthorised parking of vehicles were blocking footpaths at many places in the city, the press note urged the government to keep footpaths open for pedestrians. It said five pedestrians were killed and 58 injured in accidents last year.

The council also highlighted the need for foot over bridges or subways at busy junctions like Statue, Medical College, and East Fort.
