Special efforts must be taken with the support of teachers and local people to improve schools where the student strength is low, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
It has been found that schools improved with the backing of teachers and the public.
The support of local self-government institutions should also be ensured, Mr. Vijayan said.

The Chief Minister was addressing a review meeting of the Public Education Rejuvenation Campaign here on Wednesday.
1.86 lakh enroll
Director of Public Instruction K.V. Mohan Kumar spoke about the campaign. This year, 1.86 lakh students had enrolled in public schools.

The total student strength in schools too had increased from 36.8 lakh to 37 lakh.
As many as 43,329 classrooms for Classes VIII to XII had become high-tech, he said.
An amount of ₹226 crore had been spent on this through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
A ₹300-crore project for setting up high-tech labs for Classes I to VII in 9,941 schools had been submitted to KIIFB. It would be completed by May.
Academic master plan in 87% schools had reached the practical stage.
Activities were also on to improve students’ abilities in science and mathematics. Sasthrarangam had been rolled out to foster scientific temper among students. ‘Malayathilakam,’ a project to improve language skills, had been completed at the primary level.
Reading skills
Projects were also on to improve reading skills and English language proficiency.
