Call for inquiry into textbook printing lapses

June 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Congress(S) president Ramachandran Kadannappally has called for an impartial probe into the lapses surrounding the printing of textbooks for schools in the State.

A press note issued here said the decision to retender the printing of books had revealed the true colours of the UDF government. During the tenure of the previous LDF government, steps were taken to ensure that government presses and the Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS) had adequate infrastructure to print school textbooks.

The UDF government had created the impression that the KBPS and the government presses cannot print textbooks. It was not enough if the government admitted to lapses in the issue. It should apologise to students and parents for the cavalier manner in which it treated them, the press note added.
