British Council workshop for teachers from Thursday

100 teachers from across the country are expected to take part in the event.

The British Council, in association with the Christ Nagar International School here, will host a teacher development workshop for around 100 teachers from across the country from March 15 at the Mariarani Centre, Sreekaryam here.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the British Council personnel said the workshop would be on four different courses that would help the teachers and their schools give an international dimension to the existing curriculum and develop multicultural understanding in students.

The workshop was part of the council’s ‘Connecting Classrooms’ programme.

Courses

The courses offered would include ‘100 words and multicultural understanding,’ the aim of which would be to capture the essence of another country’s culture in 100 words, as a play, film or poem.

This would help young people to develop language, technical and communication skills and contribute to increased motivation and confidence apart from enhancing intercultural awareness and also strengthen links between countries and partner schools, they said.

The other courses would include ‘school enterprise’; ‘global citizenship’; and ‘introduction to international learning’.

There would also be a ‘training the teacher’ programme on March 19, as part of which 20 selected ‘master trainers’ would hold trials in classrooms so as to carry forward the concepts they were taught during the workshop in the local context.

Higher Secondary Education Director Keshavendra Kumar would inaugurate the workshop.
