Mayor V.K. Prasanth inaugurated a biogas plant at AR Camp, Nandavanam, on Saturday.

In his inaugural address, the Mayor said community biogas plant and aerobic bins were being set up as part of the city Corporation’s waste management at source project.

These would help in composting biodegradable waste and producing biogas power, besides aiding recyling of non-biodegradable waste, including plastic, through their scientific segregation and collection, the Mayor said.

Public support was imperative for the civic body’s waste management initiatives, he added.

The biogas plant, completed under the Corporation’s People’s Plan project, can handle 125 kg of waste every day.

The Deenbandhu-model plant has been manufactured by the firm Biotech, sources said.
