AMAI hails decision on Ayush Department

June 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMAI) has welcomed the government’s decision to launch the Ayush Department in the State, bringing all indigenous systems of medicine under one umbrella, on the lines of the Union Ayush Department.

The decision will help the mainstreaming of Ayurveda and other Indian systems of medicine and usher in very significant changes in the health sector, AMAI president G. Vinod Kumar and secretary Rejith Anand said here on Wednesday.

With the formation of the State Ayush Department, the quality of education, medical treatment, and medicines under each system of medicine could be improved.

The shortage of funds had been one of the main impediments to the development of Ayurveda and the Ayush Department could bring about a change in this state of affairs.

The AMAI also pointed out that with the mainstreaming of the Ayush systems of medicine, the knowledge and treatment methods available in each system could be explored by the government when formulating public health initiatives to tackle lifestyle or infectious diseases.
