The State Institute of Educational Management and Training (SIEMAT) has brought out a comprehensive handbook for schoolteachers on classroom management and administration.
Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb released the handbook by handing the first copy to Director of Public Instruction (DPI) A. Shajahan recently.
The handbook, which details the duties and responsibilities of headmasters, is primarily aimed at improving the teaching methodology. It looks into various subjects that the teachers should take care of – the rights of the children, basic facilities at the school, the functioning of the school, etc. Service rules, Kerala education laws, details of the Right to Education Act and the Right to Information Act, and citizen’s right are included. Copies of government orders and circulars related to public education are also featured.

The handbook will be helpful not only to teachers but also to district educational officers and experts in the field of education, said a SIEMAT official. It is available for Rs.47 at the SIEMAT office near East Fort in the city.
SIEMAT Director E. Valasala Kumar said the handbook would be an ideal guide to the teachers as it would keep them updated on the education sector and give them a clear understanding of their area of work.
SIEMAT would soon bring out a special training module on cyber crimes for creating awareness among parents.

As part of the programme, special classes for the Parent-Teacher Association will be held in all schools at the end of this month. Workshops on scholarships for students will also form part of the programme, he said.
