Threat call received at VS’ house traced to Sharjah

The State Police High Tech Enquiry Cell has found that the phone call received at the official residence of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on July 30, 2009, threatening to bomb the Town police station in Kasaragod originated from Sharjah.

The enquiry cell said an anonymous person had called the Chief Minister’s residence at 12.57 a.m. A detailed investigation by the cell’s team led by Assistant Commissioner N. Vinaya Kumaran Nair found that the caller had used a web-based voice over internet protocol (VOIP) telephone service provided by a firm in the Netherlands. The police said a person had called Ibrahim (P.V. House, Chengala Panchayat, VI/325) in Kasaragod district from the same VOIP number several times.

Earlier, the Museum police had registered a case (470/2009) under Section 507 of the IPC on the basis of a complaint filed by the Chief Minister’s Office.
