Rs.125 crore for project to check flooding

Cabinet to discuss scheme today

The government will sanction Rs.125 crore for a comprehensive project aimed at preventing waterlogging and flooding in the capital city.

A sum of Rs.27 crore will be spent in the first phase, and Rs.98.5 crore will be sanctioned for the second phase.

These decisions were among those taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here on Tuesday. Transport Minister V.S. Sivakumar was among those who attended the meeting.

Mr. Sivakumar later told

The Hindu that priority would be given during the first phase for repairing and reconstructing the bund at Killipalam.

Second phase

The second stage of the project would be rolled out on the basis of the findings of a study to be done by RITES.

The Cabinet meeting on Wednesday was scheduled to discuss the scheme, he added.
