Kerala cabinet on Wednesday decided to lease out 40 acres of land to public sector Mazagon Dock Ltd. for setting up a National Institute of Warship Design Centre.

The Centre would come up at Kadallundi Village in Kozhikode district, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told reporters after cabinet meeting here.

Cabinet decided to start 15 Industrial Training Institute’s (ITI) during the current financial year.

Moratorium on the recovery of loans of fishermen taken from various government institutions have been extended till December 31. The moratorium ends this week, he said.

Cabinet approved the draft ordinance on prevention of attack on hospitals, doctors and hospital staff, he said. Cabinet decided to recommend Governor to promulgate the ordinance, he said.

Government decided to bring in an ordinance in this regard in view of the increased number of attack on hospitals, both private and public, and doctors by relatives of patients alleging negligence.

Safeguard to their profession through legislation was one of the demands raised by Indian Medical Association, Kerala chapter for a long time.

Cabinet also decided to promulgate an ordinance to set up a welfare board for document writers and stamp vendors in the State.
