NIMS to have centre for genetics

A Molecular Human Genetics and Centre of Advanced Biotechnology for Clinical Applications is being set up at the NIMS Medicity here.

A NIMS press note said here on Wednesday that the centre would operate in two sectors of genomics namely molecular diagnostics and clinical application of genomic tools.

It is being setup under Startup India, the incubator scheme of the Central government, and Make in Kerala, the start-up initiative of the State government.

Through this Public Private Partnership (PPP) programme, the centre will continuously interact with the respective departments of the government of India to provide latest genomics technologies to the people with the guidance, mentorship support through a standard Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The clinical application wing will coordinate with cardiologists, diabetologists, neurologists, oncologists, paediatric oncologists, haematologists and ART specialists.
