Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday called for a movement to promote clean politics.

This alone would be sustainable in the current Indian context, he said inaugurating the S. Varadarajan Nair memorial meeting organised here by the charitable trust in the name of the late Congress leader.

Mr. Chennithala said the experiences of Jayalalithaa, Lalu Prasad, and Om Prakash Chouthala showed that it was difficult for political leaders who wielded enormous power and promoted the cult of corruption to escape the arm of the law.

The style of functioning of the late Varadarajan Nair, steadfast in sticking to the tenets of the Congress party, was worth emulating. He took great care to carry along all party workers, Mr. Chennithala said.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) former president Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, KPCC general secretary Thampanoor Ravi, and DCC president K. Mohankumar were among the participants of the function.
