Man arrested on theft charge

The police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of Rs.1 lakh and a mobile phone from a car parked on the Parassala block panchayat office premises early this month.

The Parassala police identified the accused as Vijay Kumar, a temporary driver at the Karode panchayat office.

On June 2, retired CRPF Commandant Sukumaran Nair had reached the Parassala sub-treasury to remit the money. He had left the money inside the car dashboard and the mobile phone on the seat. Vijay Kumar who had driven the Karode panchayat president to the block panchayat office for a meeting allegedly stole the money.

The police investigation which concentrated on people who came to the panchayat office that day zeroed in on Vijay.

Phone, cash recovered

The mobile phone and Rs.50,000 were recovered from him.

The remaining money was spent on repaying a loan and other expenses, the Parassala police said.
