LIC division registers record premium growth

The Thiruvananthapuram division of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) is planning to complete the digitisation of policy documents by the end of the year.

Senior Divisional Manager Saji Paul told a press conference here on Wednesday that 20 lakh policy documents had already been digitised. He said the division had recorded a near 100 per cent growth in premium during the first five months of this financial year. The premium collection had gone up to Rs.300 crore during the period, against Rs.152 crore in the previous year.

During 2009-10, the division sold 4,08,937 policies and settled 1,57,697 claims. Maturity and survival benefits totalling Rs.354 crore and death claims worth Rs.22.38 crore were settled.

Mr. Paul said the Thiruvananthapuram division had covered 1,46,506 lives under social security schemes during 2009-10. A sum of Rs.292.50 lakh was disbursed as scholarship to 48,752 students and micro-insurance scheme was provided to 89,555 policy holders.

As part of the Insurance Week celebrations, the division is conducting an eye camp and quiz contest for college students and employees of various institutions. Water tanks will be distributed to selected schools during the week.
