The City Corporation, on Tuesday, resumed the collection of plastic wastes from households with the help of Kudumbasree workers. (Kudumbasree had stopped the door-to-door collection of household garbage following the closure of the Vilappilsala solid-waste treatment plant).
The twice-a-week service will cover 15 wards in the initial stage and will slowly be extended to all the 100 wards. Each household would need to pay Rs.50 a month for the service.
Those who wished to avail of the service should fill up the prescribed form and submit it to their respective ward councillors.

The Corporation had given training to Kudumbasree workers in nine wards to collect plastic waste. The plastic waste thus collected from the city would be taken to the Sai Garamam at Thonnakkal, a voluntary organisation, to be processed, said Padma Kumar, councillor from Edavacode.
Cleanliness drive
The Corporation organised a mass cleanliness drive in connection with Gandhi Jayanthi at places along the Kovalam-Kazhakkuttom national highway bypass on Tuesday.

Over 900 volunteers took part in the drive at places such as Akkulam, Chakka, Muttathara, Kochuveli and areas near the airport.
About 500 volunteers from the Corporation; 150 members of the Central Reserve Police Force; 100 Student Police Cadets (SPC); and Kudumbasree workers participated. Volunteers segregated the waste found dumped on the road. Plastics were removed and biodegradable items kept apart.
The drive would continue on Wednesday in the city.
As many as 20 members from the respective Corporation health circles would take part in the drive in the city, a release issued by the civic body said.
