Heated debates in ‘Parliament’

Students raise issues from disappearance of youths to FDI in defence sector

The ‘Parliament’ witnessed heated debates on Monday as members raised several widely discussed issues of recent times. Following the opening address of the ‘President,’ the ‘House’ was adjourned and was soon reconvened for ‘Question Hour.’

The debate was conducted among school students, during a repeat performance of the winners of the State-level School Youth Parliament competition at the Old Assembly Hall on the Secretariat premises.

The Parliamentarian, who was given the first opportunity in the Question Hour, posed questions pertaining to the mysterious disappearance of several youths from Padanna and Trikkarippur in Kasaragod. Inaugurating the programme, Parliamentary Affairs Minister A.K. Balan stressed on the need to inculcate democratic attitude among students. The students of Government Higher Secondary School at Pookkottur, Malappuram, who came first among 124 schools in the State-level competition were presented with the ever-rolling trophy. The competition was organised by the Institute of Parliamentary Affairs (INPA). Government Higher Secondary School, Naduvannur, Kozhikode; St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Kuzhikkattussery, Thrissur; Kalladi High School, Kumaramputhur, Palakkad; and RKD NSS Higher Secondary School at Sasthamangalam were the runners-up. Electricity Minister Kadakampally Surendran presided over the programme.
