Corporation launches project to promote fish farming

The City Corporation has tied up with the Department of Fisheries for a project to promote fish farming in ponds and tanks.

The first phase of the project involves the release of fishlings into 20 ponds located in different wards across the city. Local level committees have been set up to monitor the programme and protect the fishlings. The Fisheries department is supplying 36000 fishlings for the scheme.

Mayor C.Jayan Babu inaugurated the project by releasing fishlings into the Koyikkal pond at Kannamoola in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday to mark the inauguration of the project. Chairman of the Health standing committee G.R.Anil, ward councillor S.Satheeshkumar, project coordinator Sunilkumar and Fisheries Extension Officer Bindu were present on the occasion.

The project has been taken up under the Matsya Keralam scheme launched by the state government.
