Bid to bring Dalawa's sword to Mannadi

Published - June 30, 2010 05:12 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Department of Culture has sought the National Museum Director's permission to exhibit the sword of Velu Thampi Dalawa at Mannadi, in Pathanamthitta, where he killed himself when faced with the odds of being captured by the British forces.

Minister for Education and Culture M.A. Baby told the Assembly on Tuesday that the sword, that was recently acquired by the Napier Museum in the State Capital from the National Museum, could not be permanently exhibited at the Velu Thampi Memorial at Mannadi due to safety reasons.

All the same, it could be exhibited (for a few days) at Mannadi and also at Kundara.
