Yakshagana enthusiasts can head for Town Hall from Saturday

Of the seven shows scheduled, five will be from tenku thittu school of Yakshagana and two shows (on July 15 and July 18) will be a mixture of badagu thittu and bada badagu thittu schools of Yakshagana.

A seven-day Yakshagana festival awaits art lovers at Town Hall from July 14. Sri Krishna Yaksha Sabha, Mallikatta, will organise the festival for the 11th consecutive year. The performances will be from 5 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. till July 20, a release from the sabha said.

Choodamani-Lanka Dahana show on July 14. Senior artiste and State Rajyotsava Award winner Surikumeru K. Govinda Bhat will act as “Hanumantha”. The role of “Ravana” will be played by Shivarama Jogi B.C. Road and Ganadhiraja Tantri of Kollangana.

It will have Balipa Narayana and Balipa Prasada on the “bhagawathike” (singing).

12-hour activity

There will be over 12 hours of continuous Yakshagana programmes on July 15 . It will start with

Shanmukha Vijaya , a one-hour talamaddale of children. It will be followed by a Yakshagana performance

Shashiprabha Parinaya by women artistes up to 11.30 a.m. Later there will be a Yakshagana performance

Yogini Kalyana by children from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. The afternoon session will start at 2 p.m. with a talamaddale

Tamradhwaja Kalaga by amateur artistes. This will end at 5.15 p.m. The show

Babruvahana-Meenakshi Kalyana will feature State Rajyotsava Award winner and artiste Airodi Govindappa as “Arjuna” and Hennabailu Sanjeeva Shetty as “Chitrangade”. Heranjalu Gopala Ganiga and Sridhar Bhat Katagala will be on the “bhagawathike”.

Monday

There will be Madanakshi Taravali-Veeramani Kalaga show on July 16. Subraya Holla Kasaragod will act as “Shatrughna”, Surikumeri K. Govinda Bhat as “Veeramani”, and Shashidhara Kulala Kanyana as “Madanakshi”. Puttige Raghurama Holla will be on the “bhagawathike”.

Tuesday

Artistes will stage Bheeshmarjuna-Abhimanyu Kalaga on July 17. A major attraction of the show will be “bhagawathike” by Leelavathi Baipadithaya, noted woman singer. Audience can also watch seven “bannada veshas” of Samshapakas.

Wednesday

There will be Chandravali Vilasa–Kusha Lava show by artistes of badagu and bada badau thittu schools of Yakshagana on July 18. Balkuru Krishna Yaji will act as Sri Rama and Shashikantha Shetty as Chandravali. G. Raghavendra Mayya will be on the “bhagawathike”.

Thursday

Sunda Upasunda–Agra Pooje will be on July 19. Radhakrishna Navada will be Sunda and Manohar Kumar D. as Upasunda. Padyana Ganapathi Bhat will be on the “bhagawathike”.

Friday

There will be Vidyunmathi Kalyana show on Friday. Sanjaya Kumara Shetty will act as “Vidyunmathi”, Harinarayana Bhat Edneer as “Kalajhanga” and Jagadhabhirama Padubidri as “Vruthajwale”. Narayana Shabaraya will be the “bhagawatha”.
