A 45-year-old woman was killed after she was run over by a bus near the Ambedkar (Jyothi) Circle on Saturday evening.
The Mangalore Traffic (East) police said Laxmi, a resident of Kallamundkur, was on her way to the KMC Hospital to meet her relative admitted at the hospital.
She was coming along with her another relative Bharati and her son.
The police said Bharati and her son got off the bus at the bus stop located a few metres before the Circle. Just as Laxmi was getting off the bus, the bus driver William D’Souza started to move the bus. Laxmi lost balance and she came under the rear wheel of the bus.
Laxmi was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. Based on the complaint by Bharati, the Mangalore Traffic (East) police, have arrested William D’Souza.
Peddler arrested
A man was arrested while allegedly peddling heroin and counterfeit currency in Sullia taluk on Saturday.
The police said K.M. Imtiaz (30), a resident of Sheni village in Kasargod district, was stopped at a check-post at Adkaru near Jalasoor on the Puttur-Sullia State Highway.
Imtiaz tried to run from the check-post, said the police. The Sullia police found 120 grams of heroin and 140 counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs. 500.
Two held with drugs
A team of officers from the Narcotics Control Bureau have arrested two persons for alleged possession of drugs.
NCB officers from Bangalore raided a flat in Manglore where the two accused stayed. The police recovered 63 LSD blots, 17 MDMA tablets and 645 grams of ganja from them on February 24.
The two accused, they said, were involved in supply of narcotic drugs to college students.
