Many took part in the 30th cleaning activity of the fifth phase of the Ramakrishna Mission Swachhta Abhiyan in Hampankatta on Sunday.
Old bus stand and nearby areas were cleaned. The activity was launched by Environment Officer of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Rajashekar Puranik. Four teams were formed to clear waste from four different black spots in the area. A team led by Sowraj removed a heap of garbage on the premises and levelled the area. Another team led by Mehboob Khan cleared construction debris and other waste from a corner on K.S. Rao Road. Some cleared garbage lying in front of the office of a health inspector.
The volunteers then placed flower pots at these black spots. A team of Swachhta Yodhas took a pledge to watch these spots and prevent people from littering.

Members of Swachh Yekkur removed plastic bottles and other waste in the area. Some volunteers moved old vehicles parked randomly in the area to facilitate free movement of vehicles.
Students of Sharada Vidyalaya visited shops and other business establishments and distributed pamphlets asking residents to keep the surroundigs clean.
The Indian Catholic Youth Movement of Ashokanagar arranged a workshop on wet waste management. It was held at St. Dominic Church. Nallur Sachin Shetty gave a demonstration.
