Varsity’s inter-college contests begin today

Inter-collegiate cultural competitions of Mangalore University will take off from Monday with the university organising it at five different colleges till October 29 with a four-day break in between.

In all, five affiliated colleges of the university – Sri Devi College, Sri Ramakrishna College and Canara College, Mangaluru; Sri Vivekananda College, Puttur; and Poornaprajna College, Udupi, will host competitions that include fine arts, literary, music, theatre and dance, said P.L. Dharma, Director, Directorate of Student Welfare.

While Sri Devi College is organising the fine arts competitions on October 19, Sri Ramakrishna College will host the literary event on October 20, Sri Vivekananda College will organise music competitions on October 21 and Poornaprajna College will hold theatre competitions on October 26 and 27.

Curtains would fall on the competitions with Canara College hosting the two-day dance competition from October 28, he said in a release.

Fine arts competitions comprise on-the-spot painting, collage, poster making, clay modelling, cartooning, rangoli, and spot photograph. Literary events will include quiz, elocution and debate in English and Kannada. In music, students will compete in classical vocal solo (Carnatic, Hindustani), classical instrumental solo (percussion/non-percussion), light vocal (Indian), western vocal (solo), and group song (Indian/western), and folk orchestra. In theatre, students will showcase their skills in one-act play, skit, mime, and mimicry. Dance competitions include folk/tribal dance and classical dance.
