A team of officers from the Labour department, District Child Protection Unit and Childline rescued two girls aged below 14 years from a house at Mallikatta junction.

The team of officials went to the house after they were tipped off about the two young girls doing household chores. The officials found that the two were sisters and they were from Bilugol village in Chikkamagaluru district. The officials found that one girl was studying in class 6 at a local school. The age of her elder sister was not known. The officials have asked the Government Wenlock Hospital to conduct tests and find out her age. The officials took the two girls from the house and produced them before the Child Welfare Committee, which referred the girls to a fit institution. The officials said case will be registered against the owner of the house only after receiving a report about the age of girls.

Senior Labour Inspector B.R. Kumar, Ganapati Hegde and Mary Dias were among the team of officials that rescued the two girls.
