Mangaloreans were in for a concert of a different kind, with Trichur Nazeer beginning his 24-hour session of mouth-organ on Thursday morning at Town Hall in the city.

The concert, which will end at 9 a.m. on Friday, featured 300 songs in various languages, where Mr. Nazeer enthralled the audience, which was in thin attendance, with his harmonica play. The concert aims at spreading the message of communal harmony and unity.

Mr. Nazeer's name features in the Guinness Book of World Record for performing 40 hours of mimicry and 101 hours of playing the mouth organ, said a press release.

Interspersed with songs – most of them being popular hits in Hindi, English, Arabic, Malayalam, Tamil, – were pieces of mimicry, ensuring the crowd remained actively involved in the concert. An imitation of religious leaders reciting the English alphabet in their prayer voice had the crowd in splits. Moreover, in his glitzy bright white suit, the musician walked around the hall to make sure there was no monotony in the day-long concert.

While the concert was free, there would be an invitee-only closing ceremony at 6.30 p.m. on Friday.
