A tree park developed by the Forest Department and named after Salumarada Timmakka was inaugurated in Birumale Gudda, near Puttur on Wednesday.
The park spread over 16 acres has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹60 lakh in the first phase.
Sanjeeva Matandoor, MLA, who inaugurated it, said that all efforts would be made to promote it as a tourist destination. Medicinal plants, other plants of local species, ornamental flower and fruit yielding plants will be planted in it to develop it as a model park, he said.

The park has rope climbers for children to play, other equipment for children, a walking track, and an interpretation centre building.
Meenakshi Shantigodu, president, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Radhakrishna Borkar, president, Puttur Taluk Panchayat, T. Shankuntala Shetty, former MLA of Puttur, eco-club members and members of village forest committee were present.
